Advanced Composition

Advanced Composition is one of the choices to fulfill the writing requirement that must be completed during a students senior year before they graduate from Canton High School.   Students are expected to have a working knowledge of the writing process and be able to recognize different styles of writing.  This class is not designed to teach students how to write, but rather it is designed to improve their writing skills and prepare them for university or college writing.  They will be expected to keep a senior portfolio.  Within the portfolio they will have the following:  (1) writing journal, (2) brainstorming, and (3) notes.
The Advanced Composition class will have many different projects that they will work on throughout the semester.  The major projects that will be completed will be:
Senior Memory Book -- a collection of essays, photos, poetry, and drawings that comprise the students memories of their life and the people who are important to them.
Children's Book -- this an ABC book written for the kindergarten or first grade of Canton.  Students will work in groups to write and produce a book that illustrates an A to a Z in a common topic (ex. animals.)
Research Paper -- this an MLA style research paper that students may choose to write on the same topic as their Government Hyper Studio Project.
Novels -- Students will read, discuss, quiz, and write about two novels that they will be given.  The novels are The Bar Code Tattoo and Tuesdays With Morrie.
